The transience and brief-caption-oriented-design of conventional social media makes it an unsuitable platform for the creator’s intentions.

Hopes
A blog comprises both posts and interactions. Hopefully, readers will engage with the posts.
Maybe this blog can capture a share of your attention.
Important Notes
The content of this blog is strictly the work of its sole creator.
Where generative AI has been used in ideation or in prose, it will be made plain.
All ideas are originally developed, unless otherwise stated.
At times, the discussion at hand demands specific technical or cultural knowledge. I cannot strive for comprehensiveness without regard for conciseness, nor vice versa. Deciding the balance is a key consideration in all posts.
FAQ
Q: Why this domain name?
A: My ideas for a blog name mostly centred about using a portmanteau. Blogopus is a double portmanteau, of blog + octopus and blog + opus, so I thought it was nice.
I also anchored the ideation for the blog name about something very generic. I thought that greater specificity increases the chance of future regret.
I prefer a generic name also because my blog does not have a singular niche, unlike many other blogs. I write about many topics, just like how an octopus has multiple appendages. Octopuses are pretty non-controversial. I don’t imagine that many people in the world will feel offended by octopuses. Hong Kong has Octopus cards (八達通) for example, which can be used to pay for many things.
In addition, Octopus cards are used by locals, tourists, children and the elderly. I hope that my blog can be inclusive and accessible.
Opus is a nice word too—it means “work of art”. Opus numbers have been used by composers to denote their musical works.
The blog started out with a different domain name from what it is now. It used to be “theblogopus.com”. “blogopus.com” was not available and I insist on having a .com domain as it is the most mainstream and credible.
Q: What does the tagline mean?
A: The tagline is written in spreadsheet formula format, signified by the equal sign. The argument structure of the IF function is: =IF(logical_test, [value_if_true], [value_if_false]).
It is interpreted as: If the condition in logical_test is fulfilled, [value_if_true] is returned. Otherwise, [value_if_true] is the output.
In an actual spreadsheet there wouldn’t need to be a space between the apostrophes for the [value] arguments but I included it in the tagline for intelligibility.
MB and MC stand for marginal benefit and marginal cost respectively.
Yeah… the tagline is somewhat nerdy but I can’t think of anything else that is not cheesy or bland.
