Some creators say “Buy Me A Coffee” when asking for monetary contributions. Don’t fall for that. All money is fungible. You are funding a yearly iPhone upgrade, a designer bag or chips at the casino.
Or it could be spent on paying for food, utilities or books. More accurately, it’s all of these things.
A percentage yn of your x amount of money donated funds zn goods and services/savings, depending on the proportions of your recipient’s total income spent on those things.
You donate $1. The recipient spends 50% of his total income on coffee, and the other half on books. That means 50 cents of your dollar goes to coffee and books, each.
Even if the recipient “separates” his proceeds from the rest of his/her wealth, and spends all of those proceeds on a particular use, say charity, it still does not mean that the money you contributed went entirely to charity. The argument above on the apportioning of your money still holds.
Whether it is in different bank accounts, mental accounts, or pig-shaped boxes does not affect the fungibility of money.
