Two of the matches are at 3am for me… But I will try to watch them.
I predict there will be few high-scoring matches from here on. Now that we’re in the quarter-finals, every team is formidable enough to be wary of. And the World Cup is obviously not a league, but a single-elimination knockout tournament. It doesn’t help too that football is probably the most high-variance sport in the world. Thus managers will tend towards conservative tactics with a strong emphasis on not conceding. Games will have a highly tactical nature, with palpable tension.
Another factor is the short runway leading up to the World Cup, due to its unprecedented mid-season timing. As a result there is less time for teams to sharpen their attacks. Defence is easier to refine than offence as it is based on organisation, discipline and structure rather than chemistry, creativity and flair.
